ABOUT THE SITE

The Domain of Silanael is my personal homepage that contains all that you ever wanted to (and didn't want to) know about yours truly, acting as a soul capsule for anyone curious and bold enough to inspect.

This iteration of it makes heavy use of Arweave - a blockchain designed for long-term data preservation - where this website lives at along with my other production and things I've deemed worth preserving.

MAINTAINING ACCESS

The preferred way of accessing the most recent version of site is using its ArNS-name 'silanael'. This is done by prepending it to the hostname of any operational Arweave-gateway, ie.

if a link to the site or other content doesn't work, use a different gateway - while data cannot in theory be removed from a blockchain, the gateways used to access it can and will censor content by choosing not to serve ArNS-names or transactions their operators don't like.

If even this fails, access the site using its TXID or fetch it directly from a miner as the last resort.

SILANAEL.COM should also contain a mirror of the site, but as with all things web2, the domain is not going to be around indefinitely nor is its association with me in the distant future guaranteed.

The site is best viewed on Chromium 138.0.7204.168 web browser with horizontal screen and a mouse.

SITE VERSIONS

By using a piece of software that accepts and sends cookie data (such as a web browser) along with executing foreign code, you consent to all the things that could happen as a result of it. Not that I have any desire to reward those interested in reading this little book of my soul with malicious acts; consider this to be my version of the usual "this site uses cookies" disclaimer. I feel that it is nonetheless paramount to understand and master the tools you use, whether it's the car you drive or the computer you use - this mindset tends to be far less prevalent than I would like, falling more and more out of favor with each addition of a quality-of-life feature in the tech we use that tends to not only dumb things down, but to abstract away the inner workings of a system. Alas, long gone are the days when one had to have some basic understanding on how computers worked in order to use them, the days when flipping the heavy-duty power switch resulted in the user being greeted with a blinking C:\ prompt on a black screen, or the "Non-system disk or disk error" message which, granted, caused quite a lot of grey hair even back in those days, but once the user found out what was causing it, they walked away with some more understanding of the x86 boot process, rendering the mitigation to further such errors as trivial as removing a floppy from the drive - quite literally so. Anyway, I digress - this site doesn't actually use any cookies, I just felt like going on a bit of a rant in here. Page and data fetches leave their usual traces in the HTTP server logs, but that's all. For now, at the very least. Hmm, this scroller is damn slow as a <marquee> element on Chromium 138.0.7204.49... Maybe I should make my own implementation of it at some point - an interactive one would be nice, used to add those into my Android-apps. Could implement it with WebGL for some neat effects, or even use as practice for WebGPU, though it would seem that Firefox still doesn't support the standards. Then again, Firefox is on its way to obscurity, and soon enough we'll have Ladybird taking its place, this new written-from-the-scratch browser hopefully coming to dethrone even the currently prevalent Chrome/Chromium and its forks. Anyway, that's it for now - greets to the kitty, the MX-guy, the sailor and the enjoyer of various things.
